The Greatest Battle Ever: Ninja versus Kung Fu Fighter Continued!

Aimoto, now standing on the opposite side of the dojo, put up a firm guard and situated himself in a strong stance. Seeing this, Taro instinctively loosened up and found himself in a more fluid stance. He knew from years of training that you can't fight force with force. Master Komatsu used to tell him, "There's no use banging two sticks together" and would make him work extra hard any time he used the wrong fighting style. "You have to learn to read your opponent. It's fundamentally the most important part of a fight." His master's words ran through his head from his years of ninja training. Now it was time to put his skills to the test against one of Japan's modern fighters, trained in a world not covered in darkness, not hidden away from society; trained in a world full of freedoms that Taro secretly longed for.

"Could you please call the start of the match?" Aimoto asked the old Master Tao Zing.

Scratching his bald head and stretching out his back, he said at last, "Oh yes. Go!"

At the the old master's call, Aimoto was already in motion. His legs hit the ground one after another, sounding with a loud thump not unlike a drum in tone of frequency. Taro, who had spent most of his life training to fend of surprise attacks, was no less ready than his body was, which moved effortlessly out of the way as Aimoto's fist flew quickly toward Taro's face.

Bending, backwards slightly, and readjusting his stance, Taro moved like a bamboo stick bowing to the wind and came back just as hard with a furious punch aimed at his opponent's solar plexus.

Aimoto saw the attack coming, and to Taro's great surprise, he effortless moved back and immediately jumped into a backwards roll, effortless regaining his footing and charging again with just as much force.

The attack continued with a fierce round house kick which came at Taro fast and aimed high with the power of Aimoto's entire body. Taro didn't have time to move so freely out of the way as he had done before, but instead put both his arms up to block the mighty blow and then moved his arms in such a way to deflect Aimoto's energy away from himself.

The block was a success, and Aimoto's body was now headed to the side, but he quickly turned this deflection to his advantage by switching legs and using the rotation from the kick to send his other foot directly into Taro's stomach, sending Taro flying back with a force unexpected from such a small framed warrior.

Taro suddenly realized what he was up against, as he used the force from the blow to easily roll backwards and to an upright position, but not fully standing. By the time the roll was complete, Aimoto was already on him and executing another swift but strong kick.

Taro quickly sent his back leg flying up high at such an angle that even his agile body felt the stretch in the leg, but not in vain, as he felt the ball part of his foot make full contact with Aimoto's chin, defeating his attack and sending him straight to the floor, too shocked from the blow to properly recover.

Aimoto picked himself off the floor, and Taro stood up all the way. Both warriors stared at each other in silent contemplation, neither making a move. For our young ninja, he had not expected such great skill from someone born into the free world and wondered if this boy's skills were connected at all with his mission.

What is a Ninja?

There is a lot of misconception about what a ninja is.

A ninja is a weapon. A ninja is a warrior.

First appearing in writing as early as 4th century according to some history, though it is hard to place the beginning of the ninja, and most scholars agree that they emerged around the 7th-10th century. According to most Asian historians, the ninja first developed in opposition to the elite samurai during the Heian Dynasty (794-1185).

By the 15th century, the role of the ninja was primarily hired mercenary or espionage. By this time, there was already boundless myths about ninjas, calling them demons and giving them mystical powers which were widely believed to be true, but in all reality, ninjas were very trained in silence and stealth and could easily hide or slip away quickly and unnoticed in a way that would lead others to believe they were magical.

Our story presupposes a modern Japanese society where ninjas have managed to survive and continue traditional methods of teaching and hired by clients and used as weapons and tools of espionage and mercenary. Taro is one such ninja, growing up in a civilization of ninjas long-thought to be extinct. But when Taro begins his first ninja mission, his whole world gets turned upside down.
