Storm the Castle, Ninja Attack! (NEW!)

::Author's comments::
I feel as though I left myself off in kind of an awkward place, like I was sort of trying to go in two directions. But I am not doing any edits to this story until completion (for progress's sake!); so please bare with me while I sort this whole thing out...

... and sorry this chapter took so long

Taro plunged his sword hilt into the ground, using the square guard as leverage to hoist himself onto the wall. He surveyed his surroundings, and seeing no guards in the immediate area, he quickly began to reel his sword in by the long rope attached to it.

Perched up on the wall, he had to be careful how he stood. The walls were lined with barbed wire which spiraled neatly down the long perimeter.

Spotlights gleamed all around the building, enforced by the watchful eyes of at least a few dozen armed guards. There were few trees between him and the building, and was there was too small to provide any kind of cover. He knew that infiltration would require a guise.

He dropped his arms down low, and tumbled over the side of the wall and rolling softly on the ground. Hidden in the shadows of the outer wall, he wasn't likely to be spotted, but if he waited there too long, he was likely to be spotted sooner or later. His full-body shinobi shizoku suit allowed blanketed him from sight so long as he traveled in the shadows. In the light, however, he would be plain as day.

Crawling on his belly, like a snake, he slithered his way further into the courtyard. Having observed the patrol's of the guards the night before, he could only hope that he had mapped out their path correctly.

Making his way into a small impression in the otherwise seamless ground, he had no time to waste in setting up his ambush. Digging up the dirt and grass, he began to make his trap!

What is a Ninja?

There is a lot of misconception about what a ninja is.

A ninja is a weapon. A ninja is a warrior.

First appearing in writing as early as 4th century according to some history, though it is hard to place the beginning of the ninja, and most scholars agree that they emerged around the 7th-10th century. According to most Asian historians, the ninja first developed in opposition to the elite samurai during the Heian Dynasty (794-1185).

By the 15th century, the role of the ninja was primarily hired mercenary or espionage. By this time, there was already boundless myths about ninjas, calling them demons and giving them mystical powers which were widely believed to be true, but in all reality, ninjas were very trained in silence and stealth and could easily hide or slip away quickly and unnoticed in a way that would lead others to believe they were magical.

Our story presupposes a modern Japanese society where ninjas have managed to survive and continue traditional methods of teaching and hired by clients and used as weapons and tools of espionage and mercenary. Taro is one such ninja, growing up in a civilization of ninjas long-thought to be extinct. But when Taro begins his first ninja mission, his whole world gets turned upside down.
